Working Hard and Finding Success

Klrara Park was a student at Saamis Immigration when Kelly McNeely came to speak about the ELSE Program that Being Human Services was offering. Klrara realized that this program fit her needs, and decided to sign up.

When Klrara came to the program her English speaking ability was very low. She wanted a job to be able to pay tuition University tuition for her children, but was unemployed, didn't have a resume and was unable to get government assistance due to her husband's employment.

Being Human Services helped Klrara improve her English speaking level and then helped her find a great job at Red Hat Cooperative in Redcliff, AB. Klrara says "Being Human Services helped me with English, and made it easy to learn." She says that Red Hat is nice and easy and she has no problems. She says "the people here are very kind. My supervisor is amazing."

Klrara says that a new job can be hard work at first, and at her current job she had sore feet and shoulders for the first 2 weeks. Thankfully, her body got used to it and now not only is her job easier, but she makes a good living with overtime. She thanks Being Human Services for their hard work and kind help on her behalf.

"The people here are very kind. My supervisor is amazing."

New Career for a New Canadian

Maribel came to Canada from the Philippines in 2014. She had worked in quality assurance in her home country, but she had a new goal for her new life in Canada. She wanted a job helping people, but first she needed to improve her English. Maribel attended the English Language Support to Employment (ELSE) program at Being Human Services. The program helped her improve her English and identify an occupation that suited her interests, skills and personality.

Being Human Services arranged a work experience with CORE Association, an organization that assists people with developmental disabilities. Maribel excelled during her work experienced and was hired full-time as a Disability Services Worker. She has since completed additional seminars and training.

CORE Association says that she is a valued member of their team and describes her as hardworking, always smiling, reliable, patient, professional, and an awesome team player. Maribel's employer even recognized her as their November 2015 Employee of the Month.

Maribel says that she's happy at her job and likes that it gives her a chance to continue improving her English.

From Unemployed to Employee of the Month

Hassan had a difficult job search, but he never gave up. He joined his local Alberta Works Job Search Club and took casual work with the McMan Do Crew, but Hassan needed more regular, sustainable employment to start building the life that he wanted. His work with the Do Crew helped him stay afloat while he took a series of Alberta Works job search workshops and met with his Career and Employment Consultant for additional assistance and advice.

He took English as a Second Language training through Being Human Services and McMan’s Choices For Change employment skills program. After 10 long months, Hassan’s hard work finally paid off. He secured a full-time position with a local hotel as a housekeeper. He was even recently recognized by the hotel as their February 2017 Employee of the Month.

“Being patient is good. Keep on smiling, because that helps to keep you healthy, which allows you to be successful at work. When you drop off your resume and you do not receive any calls, be patient. A day will come when they will call you and you will get a job.”
